Nikhil Thapar

Professor Nikhil Thapar is Director of the Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Liver Transplant service at Queensland Children’s Hospital (Brisbane, Australia) where he leads a specialist multidisciplinary clinical service for children with gastrointestinal motility and functional disorders.

He was Academic Lead for Paediatric Gastroenterology and for the national and international Neurogastroenterology and Motility service at Great Ormond Street Hospital and University College London Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health (London, UK). His research programme focuses on the pathogenesis and treatment of gut motility disorders including the potential of regenerative medicine as novel therapies for the most severe gastrointestinal neuromuscular disorders.

Professor Thapar has published >100 original articles in these fields, is co-editor of the textbook of Paediatric Neurogastroenterology, faculty lead for F1000 Prime and associate editor for the Journal of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition. He was the chair of the Gastroenterology Committee of the European Society of Paediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition (ESPGHAN) with various roles on the councils and committees of the British, European and Asia Pacific specialist societies for Paediatric and Adult Gastroenterology.
